Getting There

Jim Leads the Way

Jim and his parents led everyone down to the dock. But the nervous groom was walking so fast that all the guests (and his parents) were trailing behind him! He and his parents then waited near the entrance of the dock.

Meanwhile, my parents and I were preparing to drive down to the lake. Dad drove the car up to the Inn, I got in the front, Mom got in the back, and we were off, slowly, down the driveway. All of a sudden, I panicked and asked Dad if he had the cue cards for the readings and vows. A quick search of his tux pockets turned up Mom's reading and Jim's wedding ring, but not my vow card. We hesitated for a moment, but I decided I could share cards with Jim (this just involved switching my name for his and trading cards back and forth).

That settled, Dad took off down the hill for the lake. I kept telling him to slow down, as I could see guests still milling around at the ceremony site. When we got the signal from the Inn's wedding coordinator, we drove toward the dock and parked behind the Inn's Boathouse restaurant. I walked toward Jim, with my parents slightly behind me. The processional began and I met up with Jim. We joined arms, then our parents proceeded up to their places on the dock. Jim asked if I was ready, I smiled and said yes, and together we walked onto the dock. The Justice of the Peace whispered hello to us, and we both smiled at her, before beginning the ceremony.
