Online Planning Resources

There are now so many web sites devoted to wedding planning that you could spend weeks just trying to separate the helpful information from the junk and the ads from the honest commentary. So here's my list of good web sites devoted to wedding planning (knowing the allure of bridal magazines and their online twins -- glossy bridal e-zines -- I couldn't resist including some, but they're clearly marked!).

General Wedding-Related Websites

WayCool Weddings -- features a new wedding every week
Weddings 101 -- a comprehensive, practical, and totally non-commercial guide to planning your wedding, by recent bride Jennifer Rosenberg
WWWedding Resources -- a great list of wedding-related resouces, helping you from engagement through the wedding (and afterwards!), compiled by Mary Jane Shroyer
Rachel's Wedding Frugality Page
Yahoo -- Society & Culture: Weddings -- here you'll find everything from wedding products and services to personal wedding pages
Denise & Alan Fields' Page -- includes updates to their fabulous cost-saving bridal books, Bridal Bargains and The Bridal Gown Guide
Ultimate Internet Wedding Guide -- is a commercial site, but also has lots of good wedding links, including the Ultimate Wedding Song Library

Wedding Newsgroups

There are two wedding newsgroups -- alt.wedding and soc.couples.wedding. They're great for getting ideas, inspiration, and feedback, but they can also be addictive, tedious, and occasionally downright mean-spirited.

Celebrity's Wedding Ceremonies -- This neat site allows you to create a personalized wedding ceremony by clicking on readings, vows, and passages that you'd like to include in your own ceremony. Click on the pieces you'd like to include, hit the submit button, and you've just generated a ceremony which you can print out and use!
