We
met in October of 1994 in the restaurant where I was working. The
owner I worked for since 1990 opened a new restaurant in March
1993. The new restaurant was 35 miles from my house (as opposed to
7 with the old restaurant). It was set in a country surrounding.
Since I had no commitments or children (I was never married), had
been going through some very trying times and needed something
new, it was a good opportunity. Cheryl Crockett, my former boss
said, and I will never forget it, "I realize it is a long
drive for you, but who knows, you might find some nice country boy
out there." She always loved to play Cupid. I told her, "That
may or may not be true, but at least I'll be able to see the
leaves change."
Dan had
just moved to the area of the restaurant a few months before. His
mother lived there and he, too, was going through some difficult
times. Dan would come into the restaurant during the day, and I
worked nights.
Cheryl
told Dan, "You have to meet my nighttime waitress -- you two
are perfect for each other." Dan's reaction was the same as
mine: "Sure, Cheryl, anything you say." He too took
light of Cheryl's matchmaking comments.
So on
October 12, 1994, when I had towork a day shift to cover a
shortage, I was introduced to Dan by Cheryl. I must admit, sparks
did fly. Something kept drawing me to him like a magnet. He just
had a soft aura about him. I wanted to know more about him, and
started forgetting about my work duties... |
